It starts with a girl. A lesbian, if you're wondering. She loves t-shirts, and especially loves shirts that make a statement. What she does not love is the lack of options to show her pride. She likes rainbows as much as the next person, but she does not want her closet saturated with them. So an idea springs to life! Why don't I start my own gay t-shirt company… without the rainbows?

Many moons later, she meets another girl who loves t-shirts (and is also lesbian, if you're wondering). In idle conversation, Sarah mentions her idea to Misty. That sounds like a great idea! Can I help? And so, Proud Threads was born.

In 2011, Sarah Moecker and Misty Branch founded Proud Threads. Based out of McLean, VA, we offer shirts to the LGBT community and their allies. Our customers are anyone who believes pride is something to wear. We will expand our product offerings in the near future, and will eventually create a full fashion line.

Dedicated to comfort, Proud Threads provides soft, high quality shirts with a vintage feel. Our shirts feel like you've owned them for years from the moment you put them on, and continue to provide comfort for years to come.

Proud Threads is dedicated to being socially and environmentally responsible. All designs are printed on shirts that are made in the USA, with most of them on American Apparel. Not only are they 100% made in America, they are dedicated to paying their employees a living wage.

Proud Threads uses recycled paper for all stationery, and regional printers for our shirts. Until we expand our product line to include reusable bags, we will offer previously used plastic grocery bags to customers at festivals. By doing this, no new products or plastics are being created because of us.

Our mission is to create stylish, comfortable clothes for the community while also giving back through service and donations.

We donate 10% of all profits to a different charity each month. We choose our charities based on suggestions by you! We also sell our shirts at various pride festivals and participate in many events including AIDS Walk Washington each year. Check out our Events tab to see where we will be this year!
